Position – Senior Process Engineer
Report line – Head of Process Engineering
Purpose
To contribute to the Process Engineering team in the definition and improvement of manufacturing processes and plant for new and existing products and to ensure the capital project programme is adequately supported to meet the site and business targets.
Ability to prepare comprehensive process engineering specifications, commissioning procedures and reports. The position also requires the incumbent to support the Development department in Process Safety Management activities, namely HAZOP and process safety risk assessments.
Leading campaign changeovers and liaising with the project and construction teams to ensure an efficient and timely changeover window. Producing scopes of work to allow a multi-discipline team to execute their individual elements of the project.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
n Initiate and lead the development of proposals for new, improved or extended plant, for new and existing production, and define the scope and programmes for capital projects in collaboration with operational functions in support of the techno-commercial strategy of the business.
n Prepare relevant process engineering documents (e.g. project P&IDs, commissioning procedures, equipment data sheets, test sheets etc.) for the Project Handover package.
n Define and control the development and design work, process and equipment trials in order to meet agreed site and business targets.
n Lead the initial conceptual phase of capital projects in the development of strategies for expanding and providing capacity to meet the needs of the business. Review designs to ensure an optimum balance between technical suitability, operability and cost-efficiency.
n Participate in major capital project teams and control the process engineering input to capital projects to ensure that development, design and data provision meet agreed targets of scope, cost and time set by the Engineering Manager.
n Plan and control the commissioning of new or modified plants and lead the technical start-up team on large projects, to ensure that design intent is met, scale up parameters are understood and production is established safely and effectively to meet business cost, time, EH&S and quality targets.
SHEQ Management
n Ensure that all Environment, Health & Safety requirements are met including (but not limited to) workplace organisation, work instructions, risk assessments, permit issuing and control, COSHH assessments, housekeeping standards, and operating within the environmental permit.
n Lead HAZOPs and Design review studies, quantified risk assessments etc, for NPI’s. Arrange the process safety reviews (HSE reviews and Hazops etc.) and ensure that the resulting recommendations are implemented.

Degree or equivalent qualification in Chemical Engineering, ideally with, Chartered Engineer status.
