Renewables Design Engineer
Role & Responsibilities
The Design Engineer takes initial renewable and solar PV system concept ideas and turns them into fully detailed construction ready designs.
- Responsibility for the design and development of Photovoltaic, Heat Pump’s and general decarbonisation designs
- Support team with Planning and DNO Applications
- Support with tender response technical documents and estimating
- Electrical system design including cable and protection calculations
- Able to execute and deliver technical surveys, justifications of design and materials statements and ensure all health and safety requirements are met.
- Produce Design Risk Assessments and assist with Construction Phase Plan and post construction documentation in line with CDM.
- Review and evolve our design process (where required) inline with relevant industry standards
- Provide advice and support to operational teams
- Understand & apply the range of current and proposed sustainability related such as PAS2035, PAS2030 and Building Regulations
- Maintain and build relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors
- Support with internal and external reporting of performance and progress
- Assist with bids and tenders to provide the relevant support on sustainable projects
- Ability to balance competing priorities from a range of stakeholders using a high degree of tact.
Essential Skills
- Electrical background essential
- Competence in AutoCAD is preferred.
- Competence in PVSol, PVSyst etc is essential.
- Good knowledge of renewable technologies is preferred
- Understanding of/ability to carry out heat loss calculations would be a distinct advantage
- Strong knowledge of current environment and sustainability issues
- Confident & Competent in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
- Good interpersonal and strong communication skills
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Strong time management skills, allowing switching between a variety of tasks and meeting a combination of daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
- Must be analytical and Problem Solving with enthusiasm to enhance, improve, optimise, streamline.
- A flexible, self motivating and agile attitude, allowing you to respond to client needs.
- Experience in supporting projects to understand and improve environmental and social supply chain impacts.
- Meticulous attention to detail and precise record keeping skills

- Ability to influence different departments to suggest, implement and track more efficient processes.
