Project Engineer

Purpose

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing a project’s engineering and technical aspects. This includes coordinating with various teams, managing schedules, ensuring adherence to quality standards and providing technical guidance to team members. This position will be responsible for collating project packages of work and formatting for the tendering process.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. To facilitate a disciplined start to all the chemical / mechanical design engineering work. To plan and coordinate all engineering activities on the project.
  2. To monitor schedule/cost progress and ensure inter-departmental communication is regular and effective.
  3. To coordinate and participate in safety and engineering reviews and site visit risk assessment meetings. To ensure health, safety, environmental and quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work.
  4. To manage the technical interface with engineering disciplines, vendors and internal functions. To coordinate the flow of engineering documents and responses to engineering disciplines, vendors and to ensure timely conclusion of matters requiring multi-disciplinary input.
  5. To work with the procurement, document control and engineering disciplines to coordinate and control the procurement of equipment/ parts and the review of vendor documentation.
  6. To carry out investigation, design, contractor management and engineering project management (including cost and programme management)
  7. To assist with the preparation of cost estimates for planned engineering work, controlling capital spending and timelines
  8. To act as project leader and manage other department members or contract staff (e.g., process / mechanical / electrical / controls).
  9. Manages the work of Engineering Services to ensure compliance to Standards and all pertinent specification requirements.
  10. Chair co-ordination / SIMOPs meetings.
  11. Monitors contractor workload and specific project progress in conjunction with the Construction Manager to ensure project schedules are met or adjusted in line with current project conditions.
  12. Generation of project SOW with approval from the Construction Manager or Engineering Manager for tendering purpose, review variation applications and confirm work change directives.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.
  14. Interpreting project briefs and establishing a project plan
  15. Identifying necessary standards or safety tests the final product must meet.
  16. Delivering progress reports and schedule updates to relevant stakeholders.
  17. Troubleshooting issues and working with team members to resolve problems or setbacks.
  18. Outlining procedures to measure project performance and success and then manage project development and refinement until these standards are met.

Team Building & Incentive

  1. Assist Construction Manager in generation, data collection and monitoring of project level KPI’s.

Communication

Communicate and coordinated within all production and engineering related departments.

Delegate work scopes to contractor management and supervision.

Engage at all levels within engineering and production.

Confidentiality

Follow company procedures to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

Skills and Qualifications

Education Essential

IOSH managing safety or equivalent.

APM Project Fundamentals Qualification or equivalent.

Microsoft Project Fundamentals

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field and / or Time served apprenticeship with a minimum of 5 years’ experience on the shop floor.

CDM

Skills Essential

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Leadership skills.
  • Proficient in utilizing a wide array of computer software.
  • Commercial awareness
  • Communication skills.
  • 10 years construction knowledge within Petro-Chemical industry and / or experience within Top Tier COMAH sites.
  • Ability to manage safety completing site audits.
