Due to rapid growth and expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Technical Engineering department, for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the team.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will report to the Technical Director and will have the following key responsibilities:
· Ownership of all technical engineering design procedures and resources.
· Ensuring that all technical engineering work is completed to all relevant internal and external procedures & processes.
· Identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement and innovation in the mechanical engineering processes and practices.
· Reviewing and approving the mechanical engineering work of engineers and subcontractors.
· Work in accordance with Company working practices, to conduct activities in accordance with the HSEQS requirements and to meet all legal obligations.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer is expected to improve the work processes and be a technical governance for the discipline. The scope will include studies and tenders as well as live projects.
Key Tasks:
· Lead the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems and components for offshore projects including trenching asset and vessel equipment.
· Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of the mechanical design.
· Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, and reports.
· Coordinate with other engineers, designers, contractors, and clients to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the mechanical engineering deliverables.
· Review and approve the mechanical engineering work of junior engineers and subcontractors.
· Provide technical support and troubleshooting for the installation, commissioning, and operation of the mechanical systems and components.
· Identify and implement opportunities for improvement and innovation in the mechanical engineering processes and practices.
· Manage the technical engineering department workload and resources planning.
Key Behaviours:
· Have a strong mechanical engineering background.
· Have a good understand of hydraulic systems and basic hydraulic design.
· Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
· Proficiency in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks and Inventor.
· Proficiency in 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD.
· Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as API, ASME, ISO, and DNV
· Perform mechanical analysis, such as stress, fatigue, vibration, and thermal.
· Manage Technical Engineering projects, budgets, and schedules.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Able to work under pressure of tight timeframes.
· Use own initiative and work flexibly.
· Ability to work with the minimum supervision, solution provider.
· Innovative solutions and creative problem solving – able to suggest and develop new methods and ways of working.
· The ability to organize and prioritize own work and as such have responsibility for discrete work packages ongoing simultaneously.

Essential Qualifications:
· Post Graduate Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
