Heavy Lift / Movement Engineer (Appointed Person)

Description

Our Client is looking to recruit a Heavy Lift/ Movement Engineer (Appointed Person) to be based on-site at Hinkley Point C. 

The role is to provide safe systems of work for all activities associated with lifting and moving loads to ensure that all lifting operations can be carried out efficiently without risk to safety and in accordance with the HSAWA, UK Statutory Regulations, the British Standards 7121 guidance suite of documents and the Client / Company standards and procedures.

Requirements

Your new position will involve: 

    • Ensure that all necessary systems, standards, processes, and procedures for the activities associated with lifting and moving of loads are established and are being suitably applied to provide assurance that all lifting operations are:
      • Suitably Planned.
      • Risk assessed and appropriately Supervised.
      • Completed within the boundaries of a safe system of work.
      • Carried out using SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) in line with the HPC Lifting Standards and Competency Matrix for lifting operations.
    • Plan all lifting / moving activities for the project, within the scope of works, identify tasks that require lift plans and develop to agreed format & standard.
    • Produce detailed method statements for inclusion with the RAMS (Risk Assessed Method Statements). IT skills are essential. (Ideally you should be able to produce detailed drawings using 2D AutoCAD).
    • Support constructability reviews for jobs that will include complex lifting and moving activities.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to the site rigging and lifting teams to ensure all lifting operations are implemented safely and efficiently and in accordance with the HSAWA, LOLER, BS7121 suite of guidance documents, and any other applicable project specific lifting standards.
    • Custodian for the management of change process for lift plans, ensuring all changes to lift plans are formally documented, communicated, evaluated and where applicable endorsed by the appropriate technical authority(ies) in line with the HPC Lifting Standards.
    • Ensure that accurate weights, radii, heights, dims, COG, etc are established
    • Develop and brief weekly Toolbox Talks covering relevant lifting topics on site.
    • Maintain detailed site logs and records of all project lifting activities.
    • Organise a robust system to ensure that all Periodic Thorough Examinations are carried out.
    • Ensure there is an effective procedure for reporting defects and incidents and taking the necessary actions.
    • To ensure all that all workscope is completed in a safe manner ensuring no detrimental impact to personnel, materials, property, or the environment.
    • Read, understand, and implement Work Permits in a safe working and controlled manner.

    • Produce lift plans to a high standard.
    • Proficient in the use of 2D AutoCAD.

Qualifications & Experience: 

    • Experienced in producing and executing complex lift plans, including the use of 2D AutoCAD, to a high standard for crane and rigging lifting and fleeting operations.
    • Experienced CPCS A61 Appointed Person blue card, Competent Operator ideally with an ECITB Appointed Person, Moving Loads (TAP 01).
    • Experienced Rigger with ACE Card, NVQ Level 3 – Moving Loads
    • CPCS Crane Supervisor / NVQ Level 4 
    • Experience of writing Risk Assessed Method Statements.
    • Proven track record in working in a high-pressure environment.
    • Experience within the Nuclear, Petro-Chemical or Oil and Gas industries.

Job Preview

Project Specifics

The position will be based onsite, starting ASAP through until project completion circa 2026.

This role will be a direct report to the onsite Construction Manager.

Working Hours: Initially working a basic 45 hours per week Monday to Friday, with the potential to increase to weekend working at a later date and to suit the project requirements. Review of the working pattern from the end of 2023 to work 12 day fortnight (yet to be confirmed).

Allowances:  Lodge allowance circa £300 per week / Travel Time and Rail Fare once per month.
